The community garden shed was approved by the City Council on March 14th.  Derrick is now in the process of getting his Eagle Scout project approved by the Eagle Scout Committee and raising some additional money.  He plans to start about mid April.  The City Council also asked that any further reimbursement requests for expenses from the grant fund be routed through me, prior to sending to the City.  They wanted this review to ensure we are making the best use of this generous grant and we are following the budget we established.

Several of the Garden Volunteers had an impromptu evening picnic last Sunday, which was enjoyed by all that attended.  We continue to harvest spring veggies, and are starting to plant summer crops.  The drip-irrigation system is now completed.  With the weather being so dry, the drip system should be used at least 4 times a week for 45 minutes to an hour.  You only need to turn the faucet about a half turn when using the system.  But please poke a finger in the soil first to see if it is moist, because someone else may have already watered.

We are still looking for some bamboo for making towers for our tomatoes, peas and other climbing vegetables.   Just drop off the bamboo at the garden.  I priced a picnic table at Lowes and Home Depot and they are about $100. Since we have one in our budget, we need a volunteer with a truck to go purchase one.  You will be reimbursed and we can coordinate help offloading the table.  It will be a great addition.  Please call me if you are interested in helping with the picnic table purchase.
